Customer service
Our group of 3 was approached by the marshal after 6 holes and were told to speed up play. We said of course we will try. Not two minutes later he came back and again told us to hurry. At 6 holes it was at one hour and 15 minutes. He told us to skip the next hole. We played 18 in 4 hours. People were hitting upon us all day. Poor golf ethnic when I asked to speak to the owner she looked away and ignored me. I drove from Portland and my friends from tri cities. Worst golf outing
Interesting experience
Beautiful course. I was absolutely thrown off by the fact that I had to pay the additional "golfers rate" ($51 weekday) for a ride along person that ZERO intentions of golfing and the explanation was because of "potential theft and vandalism"....
Awesome course!
This course is almost 100 years old, and lots of fun! Short yardage from tips, but the course will give you all you can handle (especially the back 9).
#13 is a punishing par 5, make a par and your day is a success. The views are amazing and not house or car in sight!
There are a lot better values in the Gorge!
I'm sad to have to write a negative review for this course. I really want to love it. It is family run and has an "old timey feel" to it. However, this is the most expensive course in the Gorge when compared to much better courses (Skamania, Elks Ridge, and Indian Creek). Pin placement is not marked on the flags. Greens are very inconsistent. No drinking water or beer cart on the course on a hot day. Fairway condition is ok but nowhere near the other courses. Pace of play was good because there was hardly anyone there.
Would be ok if fees were $25/18 holes with cart but $50? That is ridiculous for this quality of golf course.
fun course
Enjoyed course. Challenging but fun. Greens pretty slow
Great Improvements
The staff at the Hood River Golf course has improved the course beyond belief. It is in excellent condition and groomed to perfection. I would proudly take family and friends to the course. Well worth the money.
A beautiful setting
The golf course setting is beautiful. Views from many of the holes. No paved golf paths and the signs and yardage markers could be better. Greens are slow because there is a lot of slope on them. Not very crowded. Pace of play is good. Lots of elevation change. Nice not to have houses on the course. Very natural. With work this could be a wonderful course. Unless you are in really good shape, take a cart on the back.
Walk if you are athletic
Interesting course that is as difficult to walk as any I have ever been on. If you walk the front, think of it as little more than a warmup for the back 9. Greens
are mostly slanted and slow, about 6 on the Stimp meter. The number one handicap hole, a par five, is something you will not forget. Play it well and you might double bogie.
Catches your attention
The first time I played this course it was only nine holes but man was it a lot of fun. When they carved out the back nine it took on a whole new perspective.
I drive about 55 miles one way to play this course. I do it for one reason and one reason only, this course was laid out with the spirit of golf in mind.
Take the time, take the trip, and enjoy a great day of golf on a course you may not see anywhere else like it in the Pacific Northwest.
