Fun course
Played this course for the first time Saturday and it was a treat. A very nice link style golf course. Old guy in the golf shop was kind of rude but other than that had a great time!
Fun course!
Really fun course to play. I had to drive down to Oregon since all of WA courses are closed. I'm glad I ended up at Buffalo Peak. The staff was super friendly, nice driving range, quirky course in a few areas. I'm glad they gave me a course book before I played or I wouldn't know some of the features. Greens aren't very fast or difficult, fairways were in good shape, the rough wasn't very penal. The only area they could work on was the tee boxes; they were pretty beat up and not very level. The grounds crew was just getting around to start mowing the tee boxes so they should improve.
Challenging sight lines and elevation changes.
My wife and I played this course on the way back from a southern Idaho trip. It is not far from La Grande, OR and very accessible. The pro shop guy couldn't have been nicer. The course itself is interesting with constant elevation changes and enough hazards to keep your attention. For a first timer at this course, the hardest thing was the sight lines to the landing areas. There are some high desert areas and tall reeds in other places make it difficult to tell where you should be landing your tee shot. The best hole on the golf course is the 493 yard par 5 16th. It's all up hill and the last 150 yards are pretty steep. Overall I recommend this course and I think I would play it better the 2nd time around.
You have to play to believe
Buffalo Peak is a must play when you travel to eastern Oregon. The design, conditions, views, and price will leave you wondering why it is not booked solid everyday.
A HIdden Gem
This course is a hidden gem in ne Oregon. It is challenging, yet fair.
Very poor greens
When I played this course in 2012 I was stunned by its beauty and the incredible views, but really disappointed by the slow and uneven greens.
Four years later , things have not changed,. It is extremely difficult to judge the line and pace on these greens. Balls hit online can veer off quickly by hitting a bump or can come up short or go well past the hole when applying the same amount of effort. Making a putt on these green is like playing the lottery- hit and hope.
It is a shame that I cannot recommend this golf course to anyone who takes pride in their putting. These run at about a 7 on the stimp meter..
To be fair to this course, the fairways are very good, the sand traps are well manicured and you will enjoy the awesome surroundings.
