Short and sweet: The par-63 Challenge golf course at Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond
The par-63 Challenge Course at Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond has found a niche in central Oregon. The course, which maxes out at 4,175 yards, is ideal for beginners but challenging enough for better players who want a quick tune-up and complete a round in less than three hours. Eagle Crest is set in a beautiful setting and the Challenge has some of its own scenic holes, including the downhill par-3 10th hole and the downhill 14th hole, which has a small pond to the right of the green.

Oregon's 'first golf resort,' The Courses at The Resort at the Mountain rolls through the Salmon River Valley near Mount Hood
Staking claim as Oregon's "first golf resort" is The Courses at The Resort at the Mountain in Welches, set within the Salmon River Valley near Mount Hood. The resort features 27 holes -- the Foxglove Nine, Pine Cone Nine and Thistle Nine -- and a 2008 renovation improved the bunkers and greens.

Views galore on the new Glaze Meadow golf course at Black Butte Ranch
The new Glaze Meadow Course on the 1,800-acre Black Butte Ranch in central Oregon hardly resembles the original course that opened in 1982. Thousands of trees were removed as part of a $3.75-million renovation that was completed in the spring of 2012. The par-72 Glaze Meadow, one of two championship courses at the resort, now plays at 7,007 yards from the longest of five sets of tees.

The Ridge Course is the more wide open of the two championship layouts at Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond, but it's certainly no pushover. While it's generous off the tee, the approach shots can be challenging and the greens aren't easy to read.
