BEND, Ore. -- Minutes from Bend's town center is a favorite pick for residents and vacationers alike, Widgi Creek Golf Club. Robert Muir Graves designed the course, which opened in 1991 and is framed by tall pines set in the foothills leading up to Mt. Bachelor and bordered by the cascading Deschutes River.
Widgi Creek can play nearly 7,000 yards from the championship tees, but the course has nine sets total -- including four combo sets -- so players can pick and choose which yardage is right for them on every hole.
Among the standout holes is the par-5 third, which stretches to more than 600 yards and is narrow from tee to green. The back nine features a couple of looks at the Deschutes River, while the 18th hole is a driver's delight. At less than 300 yards, it can be driven from the tee if you're aggressive enough to try for a final-hole eagle.
The facilities at Widgi Creek include a large, beautiful wooden lodge clubhouse with a bar and restaurant, as well as a pro shop and banquet space. The driving range is also very large, and there are several practice greens as well.
